A
village to fall in love with
Saltusio, a typical South Tyrolean village, represents the
connecting point between the Mediterranean climate of Merano
and its surroundings and the fresh mountain air of the Italian
Alps. Here you can feel the Southern and Northern flares melting
together in perfect harmony. A place soaked with history plunged
in the beautiful scenery of the Passiria Valley.
The Passiria Valley lies just north of the spa town Meran,
on the south side of the Ötztaler and Stubaier Alps.
It is an area rich in natural beauty, most of which is still
untouched, and is one of the prettiest and most interesting
places in South Tyrol. The Passiria Valley stretches from
the orchards and vineyards in the valley bottom to the mountain
meadows, mountain terraces and the mountain peaks.
800
years of mining history at the Schneeberg Museum
The adventure mine and the shelter hut on Schneeberg in
Passeier (South Tyrol) are on 2355 m above sea-level and can
only be reached by foot. The one in Schneeberg (= Snow Mouintain)
is the highest situated mine in Europe (2000 m - 2500 m) and
consists of about 130 km of galleries and shafts that can
partly be entered. Opened in the year 1996, the museum supplies
interesting information about over 800 years of mining history.
The
Museum Passeier in S. Leonardo
At the former farmstead of the Tyrolean freedom-fighter
Andreas Hofer (17671810) in the village of S. Leonardo
in the Passiria Valley in the South Tyrol a museum, the MuseumPasseier,
has been created. The open-air area offers a stroll through
various rebuilt original buildings of the 16th to the 19th
century, through a typically furnished Passeirer farmstead
of late, a visit to the chapel of the Sacred Heart (1899)
and the small church of the Sacred Sepulchre (1691).
